About the Network
The Possibility Studies Network (PSN) brings together academics, researchers and practitioners from centres, laboratories or societies dedicated to the study of human possibility, its antecedents, processes, limitations and consequences.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, creativity, imagination, innovation, anticipation, utopias / dystopias, anticipation and futures studies, play, improvisation, wonder, serendipity. Research conducted to study these topics is often situated at the intersection between psychology, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, political science, the arts, design, engineering, creative industries, cultural studies, and education.
Members of the network agree to collaborate in order to advance the emerging field of possibility studies and our theoretical and practical understanding of how individuals and collectives become aware of and explore new possibilities in the realm of the psychological, material, technological, social, cultural and/or political. Organisers
Vlad Glaveanu
Vlad Glăveanu is Professor of Psychology at Dublin City University, Ireland, and Visiting Professor II at the Centre for the Science of Learning and Technology (SLATE), University of Bergen, Norway. He is the founder and president of the Possibility Studies Network and editor of Possibility Studies & Society (Sage). His research focuses on creativity, culture, imagination, collaboration, wonder, and possibility studies.
Wendy Ross
Wendy Ross is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at London Metropolitan University and an Honorary fellow of the transdisciplinary school at University of Technology, Sydney. She is vice-president of the PSN and co-chair of the serendipity society as well as an elected member of the BPS Cognitive Section. Her research focuses on the interaction between material and mind in cognitive processes particularly the role of accidents in the creative process.
Constance de Saint Laurent
Constance de Saint Laurent is assistant professor at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. She is secretary of the PSN and designer of the conference materials. She works on social thinking and the impact of technology and societal changes on people and organisations. She has previously carried out research on social media, artificial intelligence, misinformation, collective memory, and representations of alterity, some of which has been published in the open access book Social Thinking and History: A Sociocultural Psychological Perspective on Representations of the Past (2021).
Vlad Kolzeev
Vlad Kolzeev is a final-year PhD student at Bayes Business School, City, University of London. His research is focused on developing practical tools that creative individuals can use to support their motivation. He is the former secretary of PSN, the experience chair at ACM’s Creativity & Cognition, and an editorial assistant of the Possibility Studies and Society journal.
